Virgin-backed secret gig start-up Sofar Sounds has announced a new partnership with Airbnb. The arrangement will see Sofar Sounds’ intimate home concerts available on Airbnb’s Trips platform.
Trips allows travellers to book experiences – including the all new music-based experiences – in the city that they are visiting, giving them the chance to see a different and culturally unique side of the location.
Sofar Sounds has revolutionised the live music industry, bringing informal gigs to local neighbourhoods in more than 300 cities around the world. Airbnb’s Music Experience will help users unlock underground performances, letting music fans skip the queue and gain access to events that have only been available to the Sofar community via lottery purchase previously.
Since Sofar Sounds launched in 2010, they’ve featured numerous artists who have since topped the charts, including Bastille, Hozier, Leon Bridges, James Bay, Yeasayer, George Ezra and Tom Odell.
Sofar Sounds gigs are currently bookable in San Francisco through Airbnb Trips and will soon launch in London and LA, with a view for further expansion in the future.
Rafe Offer, Sofar Sounds co-founder, says, “Sofar Sounds, like Airbnb, is all about global community; the magic that happens when people come together around the universal things that really matter, like music. With this new partnership, we’re excited to welcome Airbnb travellers into that community - allowing them to discover and get closer to the best music experiences that cities have to offer, every night.”
