When Sunrise host David Koch challenged me to a planking contest live on breakfast television, I decided to up the ante and take my shirt off. I think he was just pleased I didn’t cut his tie off this time!
I was really there to share the exciting news about Virgin Active’s new plan to provide feel good exercise experiences anytime, anywhere. Personally I like variety in my fitness regime. I kitesurf, swim play tennis – even climb mountains on the Virgin Strive Challenge! And I head to Virgin Active for individual sessions and group classes when I’m on the road. We know that Australians, like those in other countries, crave more flexibility in their workout regime too.
With that in mind, we are launching four new concept clubs in New South Wales in 2019, and also expanding our offering outside of our clubs, including free events and digital content exercise experiences. We want to make exercise more accessible to every Australian. We need to remove any barriers to access and make exercise easier to do and integrate into how we all live.
I have been lucky enough to see many different Virgin Active clubs and teams recently, and got active out in all of them. In Singapore I did a weights session, in Melbourne I turned up impromptu and joined a group workout, and in Sydney we raced through a high intensity spin class. Virgin CEO Josh Bayliss was cycling alongside me, and it was great getting a sweat on and experiencing for myself the power of these group activities.
More than anything it was wonderful to catch up with so many of our brilliant team and hear from our customers. There is a real sense of community building across our Virgin Active clubs, and this can only help everyone to really enjoy getting fit and feeling a part of something special. Now, I’m off for my next fitness session – this time with a tennis racquet in hand!
