It will be the first fully digital mobile service in the region, which will make customer’s lives simpler. The business is based on a really unique distribution idea - customers can download the app and have the SIM card delivered to their homes or office throughout the UAE within an hour.
I saw the app when it was in development when I visited Dubai earlier this year. It lets customers handpick their own mobile number, custom-make a mobile plan, track data and minute usage and scan ID. Young people don’t want to be tied into long, expensive contracts that don’t match their fast paced ever-changing lives.
The mobile phone is the invention that has changed my life the most, as it has enabled me to work anywhere in the world at any time. My phone allows me to do business while still leading the active lifestyle I enjoy. I hope this new venture can bring this convenience and flexibility to customers in the UAE.
It’s also good to create some healthy competition with a fresh new offering and to take on the big players. The mobile sector in the UAE is ripe for disruption and the app signifies a paradigm shift to using digital tools to make life simpler for customers.
At Virgin, we go into business to try and improve people’s lives and change business for good. I’m sure the fantastic team behind Virgin Mobile UAE will make mobile better for all customers in the region.
We started Virgin Mobile to join the information revolution and it has grown from one start-up to a thriving global business in more than a dozen countries around the world. I’m sure the existing Virgin family in the UAE - Virgin Megastore, Virgin Radio and Virgin Atlantic – will join me in celebrating the launch of Virgin Mobile UAE.
