Virgin Pulse is adding diabetes prevention to its employee wellbeing programme after its acquisition of global digital therapeutics company Blue Mesa Health.
Blue Mesa’s Transform programme has a proven track record of helping people at risk of developing diabetes to effectively manage their health and make sustainable lifestyle changes. It was developed based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) landmark National Diabetes Prevention Program curriculum and combines software, home health monitoring and remote health coaching to guide participants through a 12 month behaviour change programme. Transform received full recognition from the CDC, signifying that it effectively delivers a proven Type 2 diabetes prevention programme.

Virgin Pulse will launch Virgin Pulse Transform, the first digital therapeutic solution from the company, and build upon Blue Mesa’s offering to address rising chronic disease-related health costs. It will be integrated into Virgin Pulse’s existing platform and available in five languages to support Virgin Pulse’s global customer base.
More than one in three American adults is ‘prediabetic’, according to the American Diabetes Association. This is a condition that often leads to Type 2 diabetes within five years if left untreated. $1 of every $7 of US healthcare spend is on diabetes-related treatment and complications, driven by the fact that on average, the healthcare costs of individuals with diabetes are 2.3 times greater than those without the condition.
