When Jeff Paterson entered his business FourEx into last year’s Pitch to Rich competition, he had no idea what the next 12 months would hold. It’s been a rollercoaster of a year for Paterson, both personally and professionally.
When FourEx was crowned the winner of last year’s competition, Jeff had just been diagnosed with cancer in his leg and told that to save his life he needed to have it amputated. Since then, his superhuman efforts have been rewarded.
FourEx’s machines are now in use across the London Underground and they’ve been working on export contracts too. The competition gave them the cash injection they needed and also the publicity to get the business off the ground.
“We gave up everything to pursue this,” Jeff says.
“It’s not an option for us to fail. Being rejected by investors didn’t matter. We just knew we had to persevere.
“Winning the competition is the best thing that ever happened to us. If you’re not sure whether you should apply, take a look at what it’s done for our business. It’s got us investors, it’s got us noticed – doors just started to fly open for us.”
