We're excited to share that The Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator – a new entrepreneurial engine committed to transforming the region’s economic growth and climate action – has officially launched.
Richard Branson joined Usain Bolt, Prime Ministers Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica, Keith Mitchell of Grenada and Allen Chastanet of Saint Lucia at Mona Campus Assembly Hall in Kingston, Jamaica to share the announcement.
The Accelerator has been created to help transform the region’s economy through fast-tracking public and private investment opportunities that support sustainable development.
Its main areas of focus are:
- Disaster Preparedness, Recovery and Resilience
- Investing in Low Carbon Development
- Breaking down barriers to climate-smart growth
This development will be fundamental in building a more resilient and climate-smart region that is able to deliver broad-based economic growth and social development to the Caribbean.
The Accelerator is featured as the first high-level commitment to come out of President Macron’s One Planet Summit and the launch event saw leaders articulate a far-reaching vision for the world’s first climate-smart zone – along with plans to implement such transformative climate action.
At almost a year on from the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the Caribbean is still in recovery, but more committed than ever, to building a stronger, more resilient future for all who inhabit it – and the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator will play a key role in achieving this.
