Children’s Ground partner with Virgin Unite to challenge the status quo. Together we are tackling some of the worst human rights issues in the world – violations that are taking place right here, in Australia.
Many people don’t know that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people represent more than 28 per cent of Australia’s prison population, yet only three per cent of population overall – or that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people die, on average, ten years younger than the non-Aboriginal.
Children’s Ground is committed to amplifying the voices of people who face the greatest level of disadvantage. Our organisation and programmes are designed and led by Aboriginal people to tackle a system that is failing children and families who are experiencing extreme hardship.
Make a Change has created a platform where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are amplified and where all Australians can share their stories of change.
Using 65,000 years of cultural knowledge systems Children’s Ground is creating new opportunities. Working from an Aboriginal world view the whole community is involved, starting with little kids in their learning and wellbeing journey through life. We Support young people at risk by focusing n their talents and building economic opportunities within their communities.
They work with adults and elders who have experienced a life time of unemployment to create new economic opportunities. Our team provides mentoring, training, capital, work experiences and space for community members to establish successful pathways into small business.
Our current campaign, Make a Change, is a demonstration that change is possible – a celebration of the individuals, families and communities who rise every day to create a better future for their children and families.
Make a Change has created a platform where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are amplified and where all Australians can share their stories of change – raising awareness about important issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and highlighting the changes that need to happen. We are proud to be celebrating the change makers and the many incredible stories of change that often go unheard.
This month we are inviting those in support of this cause to donate to support Make a Change. All money received goes toward creating environments of safety and opportunity for children and young people at risk. All funds support the wisdom and talents in First Nations communities, and benefit First Nations people as the leaders and drivers of change for their children.
Entrepreneurship is not new for Aboriginal people – they are the longest living continuous culture in the world. They’ve adapted and have an incredible knowledge and sophisticated history to draw from.
Children’s Ground and Virgin Unite are excited about what the future holds.
