Couldn’t resist sharing some more fun photos from the Necker Cup, the world’s most unique tennis tournament. It was also one of the first weeks where we had guests visiting Necker since we reopened and it was great to see how much everybody enjoyed our beautiful island.
I still have to pinch myself that we got the chance to play with Bjorn Borg, Caroline Wozniacki and co - and lucky that we managed to finally win the tournament, alongside one of the best doubles players of all time, Daniel Nestor. After all, we were playing against the best doubles player of all time, Mike Bryan!
We also enjoyed the Necker Open at the same time, and I got to join in a good day of golf over at the beautiful Nail Bay Private Golf Club. The putting course is amazing. Here’s a couple of my attempts at challenging downhill puts – thankfully my tennis is slightly better than my golf!
The last night of the Necker Cup is always a raucous End of the World party, and this year was no different. We had a special treat as Kenny Chesney, a wonderful man as well as one of the world’s best performers, performed an intimate set in the Great House. I had the pleasure of spending some time with him and he is just as delightful offstage. He had us all laughing with tales of his grandfather, who once joked to him: “I’m a Democrat. But I’m saving up to be a Republican!”
We also enjoyed a moving moment as the youngsters from the National Tennis Foundation shared their stories and performed a special song for us, while DJ Mehow (who is also one of the brilliant organisers of the tournament) kept everyone dancing long into the night. Anyone else spot Bjorn Borg strutting his stuff to ABBA?!
The main reason we hold the Necker Cup every year, together with a love for tennis, is to raise money for good causes Virgin Unite and the National Tennis Foundation. Thanks so much to everybody who joined us, played and supported.
