PROWEB is a women’s empowerment network, enabling like-minded women to speak with one voice and harness the talents and skills of entrepreneurial women across Zimbabwe.

Virgin Unite began funding PROWEB in 2014, as part of a three-year program. Since then we have supported over 180 women entrepreneurs and matched them to female mentors. With our continued support – these entrepreneurs have gone onto make incredible impact in their communities and industries. Today we’re sharing the story of Adelaide Muchetu, entrepreneur and owner of the events management company, Platinum Events.

Adelaide joined the Virgin Unite-PROWEB Business Women’s Training Programme over a year ago and since then has revolutionised her business. From developing business plans, to utilising new business models, to developing growth strategies – Adelaide has been on an accelerated the business journey and has built Platinum Events into one of the premier events companies in Zimbabwe.

PROWEB teaches about the importance of networking, utilising social media, and translating business management theoretical knowledge into practical activities. They also match entreprenerus with mentors – in Adelaide’s case, Eunice Dlamini – a woman Adelaide credits with helping to restructure her business and set attainable goals.

Over the last year Adelaide has secured new events equipment, improved record keeping, and developed a new website. Of 2017’s many milestones perhaps the most outstanding is the record number of events put on by Platinum – achieving 75 per cent growth on their 2016 numbers.

Adelaide has also diversified the company’s offering to now hire out décor equipment – this incresed revenue stream and seen the business’ income grow by 80 per cent. Adelaide was nominated by PROWEB for the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Womens Desk Award in Tourism and Hospitality in September 2017 and was recently announced as the winner.

Adelaide reflects on 2017 as a turning point for her business. She learnt to keep her eyes on the work and that running a business is not an impossible task, but a reflection of growth and development. “Certainly, PROWEB lives up to its motto, “Come with us and make a difference,” she states.
