"There is simply no issue more important. Conservation is the preservation of human life on earth, and that, above all else, is worth fighting for." – Rob Stewart

Last week after tireless search and rescue efforts from friends and family, the coast guard and the kindness of complete strangers, the body of our dear and special friend Rob Stewart, was found 220m down in the deep blue.

Rob was a kind, passionate, caring and conscious man, who dedicated his life to educating the world about sharks, their true nature and needless slaughter – a figure currently reported at 100 million a year

Rob didn’t see sharks as anything other than incredible, unique and beautiful creatures, and worked tirelessly to bring people close enough to see their beauty. He wanted us all to realise the connection we all hold as living species on this planet and how important sharks are to the balance of the global ecosystem.

In his own words, “You’re told your whole life since you were a kid, sharks are dangerous. You’re warned not to go adventuring too far out into the ocean, but then finally, you see the thing you were taught your whole life to fear, and it’s perfect, and it doesn’t want to hurt you, and it’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen… and your whole world changes.”

Rob was so excited about this dive in particular, because with the new equipment he was using he said that he could, “finally show people sharks’ true personality”. It was something he was in awe of and strived to share.

He was the most wonderful son, brother, friend, conservationist, humanitarian and human being. His soul shone through to all he met and anyone who had the privilege of spending time with him was always blown away with his fun, gentle and passionate presence.

The world has lost one of the true greats – a true earth steward, so dedicated to his cause and what truly matters in this life. We can all learn something from him.

I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to do justice to how special Rob was, but this week I’m dedicating my social channels to a ‘week of water’, posting some of Rob’s stunning photos and quotes to continue his campaign to protect and love the ocean. We can all be participants in protecting this world and take a role in continuing Rob’s work. Aside from following and sharing my social posts this week, you can also support by doing the following:

Rob dedicated his life's work to the Ocean, the betterment of the Planet and all within it... and now he has given it his life.

Between the shattered emotions, I am grateful that Rob passed doing what he loved most. In a lot of ways he felt more at home in the sea than on land and to me there is a beauty in the fact that the ocean was his final resting place. It's what he would have wanted.

We love you Rob. I will never forget the wonderful memories we have shared together and will do what I can to keep your torch burning in the hearts of others. I know that everyone who knows you will strive to continue to spread your message and awaken the people of this world to the ocean’s true beauty, the importance for caring for it and how we really are all connected.

You knew deeply what really matters in this life and the true purpose for living: love... and you certainly lived yours the best way possible.

I will miss you every day my friend. May your soul drift in peace.
