The war on drugs isn’t working. Over the last 100 years, millions of dollars have been spent, but the illegal drug trade is stronger than ever. And so is the cycle of violence that comes with it.

We believe there is a fundamental problem with drug policies that criminalise addicts versus treating it as a health issue. Such policies contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis. A quarter of a million more people die from AIDS every year from needle sharing.

We know it’s time for a rethink, and that’s why Richard is part of the Global Commission on Drug Policy. Virgin Unite supports the Commission’s work. Our goal is to raise awareness of the huge social and economic cost of the war on drugs. We want to see policies that treat drug use as a health challenge, not a crime.
