Standing by the BVI

Hurricane Irma has now passed through the Caribbean and the damage left behind is unimaginable. It is truly heart-breaking to see such devastation in a place we call home and to communities we love dearly.

People have been left with nothing; no home, no running water, no power or possessions – and we are only just beginning to understand the extent of the damage caused.

The BVI is a place inhabited by some of the most resilient, proud and caring people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. This is an unbelievably testing time for all affected and now more than ever, we need to unite and work together to support one another.

We are already working on a number of ways to get help to those who need it and my family and the Virgin businesses have been inundated with people reaching out to offer help and resources – your compassion has been invaluable and I really can’t thank you enough.

We will continue to work with the local authorities, government, Armed Forces and relief teams on the ground to best support our community, but one way people can help immediately is by donating to our BVI Relief Appeal.

To ensure that we’re there for our local community in the very difficult months ahead, Virgin Unite, Unite BVI and Virgin Limited Edition will be working together with local organisations to identify the ongoing needs of affected individuals, families and communities impacted by Irma – which is where your donations will come in. We need to raise as much money as possible to help those in urgent need.

Virgin Unite has also made a donation to the Red Cross to help all those affected by Hurricane Irma. The public can donate to the British Red Cross through Virgin Money Giving (who are waiving their fees in support of the appeal).

Sam Branson, Holly Branson, Irma,

My brother Sam is currently travelling to the BVI with supplies and aid, ranging from nappies and clothing to water purification tablets and tarpaulin for shelter. It’s been very hard to gain an understanding of the situation on the ground with power on the islands still down, but he will be keeping you all updated as much as possible via his Instagram account.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the disaster across the BVI, Caribbean and beyond and we will continue to do everything we can to help.

Thank you to everyone who has donated. For those who wish to donate, you can do so here.
