We were in Italy for a friend’s wedding at the weekend, and there happened to be a ping pong table at the venue. I wasn’t the only keen tennis fan at the wedding, and soon found myself up against a formidable opponent: Maria Sharapova.
I presumed Maria, a Career Grand Slam winner and former world number one on the tennis court, would be an excellent table tennis player too. We started the match, and somehow I won the first point. Then the second, and the third. Suddenly, I found myself up six-love. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself.
Then Maria looked up and said: “Well, I better switch from my left hand now!” Once she was playing with her favoured hand, she duly won the match. Thanks for the game Maria!
It was a beautiful wedding in Puglia, and there was lots of multi-tasking going on as we fitted in watching England’s World Cup win around the nuptials. As the Three Lions reached a first semi-final since 1990, it was definitely worth it! I’m looking forward to more sporting action this week, with Wimbledon and the big game against Croatia. Best of luck to all the tennis players, and come on England!
I also celebrated Waistcoast Wednesday by donning a waistcoat, along with Holly, and headed off to cheer on Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon. What a great week!
