As a business leader I think it is really important to get out there and empower and inspire your team. While we have companies in many different sectors in countries across the world, I love to see the people who make the Virgin brand thrive in person and in action.
It’s also important to have fun and surprise people. So I have always made a habit of dropping in unannounced to our Virgin businesses. I did it recently at Virgin Atlantic, while some new crew members were completing their fire training. Next, when I was in Dubai, I thought we’d give the teams at Virgin Mobile UAE and Virgin Megastores a shock.
I travelled to the Virgin Mobile offices in the Dubai Design District and hopefully put a smile on the team’s faces as I learned what was happening on the frontlines, and of course posed for a few photos. It was also a good occasion to congratulate the team, who have just won the Gulf Experience Awards for Best Overall Digital Experience and Best App. As the first fully digitalised mobile service in the UAE, it’s wonderful seeing the team providing a great customer experience and leading in innovation.
As our Managing Director Karim Benkirane said, it’s all about providing a simple, personal experience for customers while also continuing to push the boundaries. We’ve got a really cutting-edge product here and it’s fantastic to see how the team are shaking up the market. It’s a model that has worked for Virgin Mobile all over the world, from the UK to Australia, the US to the Middle East.
Meanwhile, over at Virgin Megastores it was wonderful to see our well-loved brand continuing to reinvent itself in new markets. The place has such an energetic feel, full of life and excitement – plus it was lovely to see my autobiography Finding My Virginity on the shelves in our megastore. Until next time, it was great to see all the Virgin family over here.
