Silent discos and safaris in South Africa

With Virgin Atlantic launching our second daily service between Johannesburg and London Heathrow, we wanted to really spread the word about the news. But sometimes the loudest shouts can be silent…

It was such fun joining all the team, along with 947’s Lucky Du Plessis and Frankie Du Toit, to mark the launch with a silent disco at the check-in. I’ve spent a lot of time in airports and can’t remember seeing so many smiling faces, dodgy dance moves and happy crew and customers. I love to dance everywhere from on top of tables to in the streets, and I’m glad to add while boarding a plane into the mix.

Virgin Atlantic’s new route will be operated by new Boeing 787-9 aircraft, with Wi-Fi on every flight of course. The new flights add an additional 188,000 seats between Johannesburg and London, and we expect to carry over 370,000 customers annually on the route, connecting more and more people between the two great cities and beyond.

We’ve been flying to Johannesburg for over 22 years and I have very fond memories of my time spent in the region. The additional service will support trade and tourism between the UK and South Africa and means many more people can travel to spend time with friends and family or for business.

Before getting out my dance moves, we enjoyed a wonderful visit to South Africa, complete with a trip to Ulusaba, Virgin Limited Edition’s game reserve. It really is a magical place and one of my favourite spots on Earth. It was made extra special by a delightful group convened by Virgin Unite, who joined us on safari and also learned more about the projects Pride ‘n’ Purpose work so hard on to support people in South Africa.

As well as spotting the Big Five, there was also time for some Halloween dress up fun. And yes, I couldn’t resist not one but two outfits. What do you think to my transformations? And which do you prefer?

Thanks to all the team for such a fun, rewarding trip.
