The extension of the UN proposed cease-fire between Hamas and Israel was a fleeting bit of good news in the depressing situation that has engulfed the Middle East for the last two weeks.
The two sides must build on this temporary respite and get back to seeking a real and lasting peace.
There will never, ever be a military solution to this conflict. We must all encourage both sides to work on a political solution - the ground work is being prepared by Secretary Kerry and the United Nations.
To do this, the Hamas rockets must stop falling on Israel. And the Palestinians must gain an internationally recognised state of their own, where they can live their lives with dignity.
