We’ve listened with interest as Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has set out a new vision for railways in the UK today. This includes plans for a new generation of long-term regional partnerships, starting with the East Coast Main Line, which will be introduced from 2020.
Richard Thumbs Up Azuma Trains
In two decades on the West Coast, Virgin Trains has achieved great things – from hugely improving performance and pioneering customer-focused travel to introducing innovative tech such as automatic compensation for delays.
We’re in the process of transforming the East Coast, with new trains on the way and a ground-breaking entertainment system.
I’ve always said that having a single, centralised rail infrastructure provider across the UK doesn’t work – there needs to be a greater local focus and the Secretary of State’s announcement is a welcome move in this direction.
It’s vital the new East Coast Partnership concentrates on passengers with the train operator taking the lead with customer-focussed decisions. We look forward to learning more, and continuing to operate and innovate on the East Coast. Head over to our partners Stagecoach for more information.
