I’m a firm believer in looking on the bright side of life. We should all be a lot more optimistic than the news we all read makes us feel. We have a lot to be optimistic about. There are extraordinary things taking place every day.
I said exactly this at the Finding My Virginity launch in London, which struck a chord with Emily Coxhead, an entrepreneur who we’d invited along. She wrote to me afterwards explaining how it chimed with her own vision, which I was delighted to hear.
Emily is the founder of The Happy News, a newspaper and growing brand that celebrates all that’s good in the world, sharing positive news about wonderful people. You can pick it up in many shops, businesses and cafes, as well as reading and watching plenty of Happy News online.
Now Emily is launching her first book, Make Someone Happy, a creative journal full of uplifting tips and ideas for brightening people’s days, raising your spirits and making a more positive world.
As Emily wrote to me: “I simply want to make a few people smile in what can sometimes feel like a very dark planet, to be able to shed a tiny bit of light on the good stuff and remind people things aren’t so bad.”
With that in mind, here’s one of the ideas you could put in practice today. Write a little positive note for somebody – a colleague, a friend, a stranger – to find, and start spreading a little more sunshine. What will you write, and who will you share it with?
