New Year, same favourite sport for yours truly. It’s been great kick-starting 2019 with some exhilarating kitesurfing.
You may have noticed Father Christmas kiting off the top of the roof on Necker Island on Christmas Day as he made his rounds delivering presents. Santa’s foray into kitesurfing wasn’t the only kiting going on around the BVI, as I was keen to hit the waves myself.
You can see me in action (with the blue kite) in the video above. Congratulations to Gumption for beating my time, and thanks to everyone who joined us on the journey. It’s always a joy to get out on the water, and I would encourage everyone with access to the ocean to give kitesurfing a go.
It can give you such a wonderful feeling of freedom, exhilaration, and oneness with nature – not to mention an extraordinary rush of adrenaline. What’s more, it’s great exercise, recreation, relaxation and stress management too. It certainly helps me to live life better.
You may remember a few years ago when we set a new world record for the largest number of people on a kite at one time. Well, kitesurfing champion Jesse Richman and friends decided to try to beat our record when they visited Necker Island recently. I went out to watch the attempt, and have to congratulate Jess and the gang for setting a new record – five people on one kite!
I hope you’re feeling inspired to try kitesurfing in 2019. Get out there, grab a board and chase the wind.
