I have just finished the toughest physical and mental test of my life. The Virgin Strive Challenge is complete! Together with an inspiring group of individuals – including my children Holly and Sam, and my nephew Noah – we have travelled from the base of the Matterhorn in Switzerland to the summit of Mt Etna, under human power. There were moments of extreme exhaustion, but equally moments of pure joy.
I’ve met so many wonderful people along the way, and challenged myself in ways I never thought possible. While we're sore, raw and tired, we all have huge smiles on our faces and are already looking forward to our next adventure. In the meantime, check out the picture below and follow our incredible journey.
HIKE: Five days, from the base of the Matterhorn in Zermatt to Rima St Guiseppe into Northern Italy, covering 66km, and climbing an elevation 5072m.
CYCLE 1: Five days, from Rima St Giuseppe to Magliano In Toscana, covering a distance of 745km, and climbing an elevation of 7,740m
CYCLE 2: Five days, from Magliano in Toscana to Salerno, covering a distance of 675KM, and climbing an elevation of 6,190m
CYCLE 3: Five days, from Salerno to Villa San Giovanni, covering a distance of 690km, and climbing an elevation of 10,265m
TRIATHLON: Three days – 3.7km swim from Villa San Giovanni to Sicily, followed by a 120km bike, and finally a 21km run/hike up Mt Etna, climbing an elevation of 7,230m.
More to come tomorrow, but right now we’re off to celebrate.
