Getting down to business in boardshorts

Good entrepreneurs can work and play hard anywhere – but I always prefer to get down to business in boardshorts. In the second Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) on Necker Island, we are looking for a new wave of entrepreneurs to come share their story with us in the British Virgin Islands.

Last year's finalists are making great strides forward. Winners Doctor On Demand, which I am an investor in, went on to raise $50 million in venture capital funding. Breathometer, which previously became the first company on SharkTank to get all of the judges to invest, went on to be featured as a success story on the spin-off Beyond The Tank. Wanderu leveraged publicity from XTC to become number one in their category in the iPhone app store.

Who can top those innovations? Enter this year's contest at www.extremetechchallenge.com and let us know why you have created the next big thing. We're looking for entrepreneurs who have an innovative tech product and are poised and ready to scale.

This year, XTC’s top 10 semi-finalists will be selected to present to a panel of judges at leading global tech show CES. Three chosen finalists will fly out to Necker, where MaiTai co-founder Bill Tai, Google Maps Co-Creator Lars Rasmussen and others will join me in judging the ultimate XTC Champion. The winner will receive possible cash investment from XTC under agreeable terms and infrastructure to help scale their business.

What’s more, all of the finalists will receive the support of the XTC community to help build their companies and learn more about the art of entrepreneurship. They will also become part of a welcoming, innovative community of fellow entrepreneurs.

I’m proud that we at Virgin also run several of our own exciting pitching contests to give even more entrepreneurs the opportunity to gain recognition, mentoring and support. Watch out for announcements about Pitch to Rich 2016 in the new year.

It is in this exciting, collaborative atmosphere that so many great new ideas are thought up here on Necker – I’m sure many more will be unearthed during XTC. Enter by September 30th at www.extremetechchallenge.com for your chance to join the fun.
