Since opening our first club in South East Asia here in Singapore back in 2013, it has been wonderful to see the brand go from strength to strength. Virgin Active now has 12 clubs across the region, with five here and seven more in Thailand. The past two years have seen five new openings and we have two more in the works too.
One of the most satisfying parts of running Virgin Active clubs in this part of the world is how our members have embraced their community feel. Our group exercise programme is particularly popular here, and it’s great seeing people use our clubs as places to gather and get to know one another – not just work out.
Of course, the key to that is having brilliant people to inspire our members, and that is certainly the case at Virgin Active Marina One. I got to meet lots of the team at the club, and enjoyed a Q&A with Managing Director Christian Mason and the team. As we took a group photo, Christian’s son Oliver performed this brilliant handstand too – setting a new bar for photos on this trip!
After meeting the team I enjoyed a workout session with Jeff, one of our personal trainers, who was absolutely brilliant. After the Virgin Strive Challenge I’m feeling as fit as I was in my twenties and want to make sure I stay that way. Having a trainer put me through my paces, trying some weight training as well as cardio, was just what I needed to fend off jetlag after some busy days of business and travel.
This Virgin Active is based at The Heart at Marina One, and the wonderful team working here certainly put the heart into Virgin Active. Now we’re off to Australia, where I’m looking forward to catching up with all the Virgin family Down Under. And, of course, I’m expecting handstands!
