Delighted to be in Miami to announce a whole host of exciting news about Virgin Voyages. I’d raced over from the Necker Cup for the celebrations and wanted to make the most of it, so we shared not one, not two, not three, not four but five big announcements. All before breakfast!
First we revealed our plans to build a new lush tropical terminal for Virgin Voyages overlooking the Miami skyline. Normally cruise terminals are dull, lifeless places where people are herded onto even more boring boats – our palm grove inspired design will be filled with colour and fun, a place where people can really begin their voyage of a lifetime.
With our new terminal and a long-term commitment to PortMiami, we also announced that our first ship, the Scarlet Lady, will continue to sail to the Caribbean from Miami throughout 2021. Our second ship will sail from Miami during the fall/winter cruise season of 2021/22. What’s more, I let slip that we are starting work on our fourth ship, as we seek to build Virgin Voyages into a fleet of the finest ships on the seven seas.
Virgin Voyages is committed to creating an epic sea change for all by playing a significant part in securing a healthy future for the ocean and having a positive impact on the communities and ports it visits. With that in mind, working hand-in-hand with Ocean Unite, Virgin Voyages is sponsoring our upcoming Aquatica submarine dive to Belize’s Blue Hole. Watch out for more on that in the coming days.
But that’s not all! We're bringing the romance back to sea travel with the the opening date for Virgin Voyages bookings kicking off on February 14th. Our inaugural season will open for sale on Valentine’s Day for the general public and February 5th for those currently holding pre-sale deposits.
Thanks to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Chairwoman of the Miami-Dade County Economic Development and Tourism Committee Rebeca Sosa and other local government officials for joining us today and for all their support with Virgin Voyages. Last time I was in town there were a few ties around, so I brought my trusty scissors just in case anybody needed a snip – but there wasn’t a tie in sight.
Miami is an incredible city and one of my favourite places to work and play. It is becoming one of the real hearts of the Virgin brand. From our headquarters for Virgin Hotels to Virgin Voyages, from Virgin Atlantic’s long history of flying here to our newest business, Virgin Trains USA, South Florida has quickly become another home for the Virgin brand.
Head over to Virgin Voyages to find out more about all of our news and get a little extra dose of Vitamin Sea. Now, I’m off to the Necker Cup – there’s a final to win!
