People often ask what my days are like when I am at home on Necker, and I’m always happy to share insights into island life. But there are also many of you who ask how my days are shaped when I am travelling. With that in mind, here is a day in the life, South Africa style.
“It’s a fairly average day,” I joke at the start. A hard early morning game of singles tennis – watch the 360 video of it too – it was time to get to work. We drove into Cape Town for two big launch events. I really got involved at the opening of Virgin Active South Africa’s new Collection Club, before heading over to the newly relaunched Virgin Money South Africa to celebrate our new insurance products.
As ever, the highlight of my visits was meeting so many wonderful Virgin people, and hearing from our staff on the frontlines about what our customers need. This is especially true in South Africa, where the brand has really been embraced and became a part of the landscape in the country.
After the work (ok, it was fun too! What’s the difference?) I headed back to beautiful Mont Rochelle, where we were teaching some local children how to swim. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing, and is so important for everybody to learn.

I am very lucky to have such a fantastic group of people around me, and around the Virgin Group. I’m also fortunate I love to be so active and enjoy really busy, varied days. Keeping a balance between working hard, keeping fit, and playing hard is critical. As we say in the video, this is a little taste of the secret sauce behind our brand. Hope you enjoy it, and we’ll share more soon.
