18 months ago, while attending a Formula E race with DS Virgin Racing, I predicted that every car on the road will be electric within the next 15 years. As the all-electric racing series continues to innovate and excite, I’m confident we are going in the right direction.
I’m delighted to see the next-generation car digitally unveiled for the 2018/19 Formula E season, which takes another step forward in moving electric cars further into the mainstream. With nearly double the energy storage capacity and double the range of the current car, it proves battery and electric motor technology is advancing rapidly.
If this has been achieved in a few short years, I’m confident electric cars are not far away from becoming the norm on roads around the world.
The next generation car will improve the excitement of races too, teams and drivers to complete a full race at higher speeds, without swapping cars mid-race. As DS Virgin Racing driver Alex Lynn said: “I think the new car personifies everything that Formula E is about; futuristic, fast thinking and cutting edge in the world of motor racing. It’s the perfect car to take Formula E to the next level.”
