Chip manages XL Catlin’s Ocean Risk Initiative which works to promote both research and understanding of the implications of ocean change on the future risk landscape.
He helped to establish and manage the Catlin Arctic Survey (2009-2011), and subsequently the XL Catlin Seaview Survey (2012-2016) and the XL Catlin Deep Ocean Survey (2016). Chip established XL Catlin’s Oceans Education programme, designed to increase ocean literacy to students around the world. So far over 3.5 million children from 96 countries have taken part, with a target to reach 10 million by 2020. Chip has also planned and led expeditions to the rainforests of Borneo, central and South America and is a trained geography teacher.
