Before the tennis, the fun got started with the Necker Open. I joined in for a million dollar hole in one challenge, with the likes of Greg Norman and Matt Kuchar aiming to hit a fish food golf ball off the 25th floor roof of the Baha Mar into a hole on a floating green far below. I was happy to make a decent connection on my swing, but like everybody else fell just short of making the shot.
On the tennis court, it’s been wonderful seeing so many brilliant pro tennis players competing and having a blast. Yours truly and other amateurs have been fortunate to play alongside and against the likes of Martina Navratilova, David Nalbandian, Justine Henin, Roberto Bautista Agut, Janko Tipsarevic, Tommy Haas and recent ATP Finals winner Grigor Dimitrov. I’ve enjoyed a few rallies with Grigor outside of the tournament too and can see why he has risen to world number three.
Perhaps my favourite rally of the tournament so far was between Grigor and Martina – I’m sure we can do better than this on finals day in the Necker Cup though! Like everyone else, Grigor and Martina have really embraced the spirit of the Necker Cup, and we’ve all enjoyed some wonderful conversations off the courts too.
Of course, the most important reason we’re all here at the Baha Mar for the Necker Cup is to raise funds to support the hurricane recovery efforts in the British Virgin Islands. If you’d like to support, head over to the Necker Cup now. In the meantime, I’m off to practice my serve ahead of the final day of matches…
