For Voom Pitch 2018, Virgin Media Business has teamed up with G by Grant Thornton to offer one business the chance to benefit from one-to-one mentoring.
The G Award is looking to recognise outstanding leadership of a start-up by offering support for an entrepreneur. This will come in the form of mentoring on planning for finance, pitching, creating finance-ready documentation and an invite to share and learn from the UK’s most talented business leaders at one of their exclusive CEO events. Plus 12 months free access to a central London co-working space.
The team has already helped shape over 400 equity and debt fundraising transactions for businesses seeking up to £10 million – and 87 per cent of the businesses that they have been working with have been successful in getting introductions to funders.
Mentoring is, of course, a key part of the entrepreneurial experience. Even Richard Branson puts his success in the airline industry down to his mentor Sir Freddie Laker. “It’s always good to have a helping hand at the start. No matter how incredibly smart you think you are, or how brilliant, disruptive or plain off-the-wall, your new concept might be, every start-up team needs at least one good mentor,” he says.
“Someone, somewhere has already been through what you are convinced nobody else has ever confronted! Okay, so their version may have been analogue rather than digital, but trust me, many of the business fundamentals are exactly the same. Building a new business takes more than technological skills and creative genius – it needs people, and if you’re going to create a great culture as well as a great product, those people need tending to in a plethora of different ways.”
