Entries for Virgin Media Business Voom Pitch 2018 may have closed but now it’s time for everyone to get involved as voting is open until May 15th.
After that, the top 40 entrants in each category will go through to the semi-finals in Manchester, where they’ll have to fight for their chance to pitch their business idea to Richard Branson and a panel of judges in London on May 23rd.
Let’s take a look at what’s going on in the leaderboards at the moment…
In the Spark and Startup category, CleverBooks is currently top of the leaderboard with its Augmented Reality solution to make education more fun for primary school children. Just behind them is Smarty, a software company out to help other start-up businesses grow. In third is a recruitment agency looking to disrupt the industry, and in fourth is Nifties, a supermarket looking to reduce food waste by selling food that would have been thrown away by other shops. Currently in fifth place is GiveBytes, a crowdfunding website asking people to support causes they believe in by donating the processing power of their computers.
Meanwhile in the Scale and Grow category, V-Ate are topping the charts with their restaurant of petrol heads’ dreams where you can dine in authentic cars. Behind them is Empty Trip, looking to use tech to solve the issue of taxis returning without a passenger after a drop off, and then unique after-school debating programme Debate Mate. Currently in fourth position is Rejuice, a smoothie brand making juices from ‘ugly’ fruit and veg, and in fifth is People’s Energy, an energy supplier giving their profits back to their customers.
