Virgin Trains has become the first train operator to offer customers the option of a digital ticket for all ticket types – including season tickets.
Customers will be able to purchase their season tickets online and have it delivered directly to their mobile device within seconds. This means they no longer need to queue at a station or worry about damaging or losing a paper ticket.
“Buying or renewing a season ticket is now so much easier as it can be done anytime, including from your phone,” Sarah Copley, executive director of commercial at Virgin Trains, said. Offering 100 per cent of our tickets digitally is more evidence of our ongoing commitment to innovation and our customer service.
“Digital tickets have many advantages. For example, because they allow us to link up our different systems, customers can claim compensation much more quickly if there are delays.”
As the use of e-tickets increases and more customers rely on having a charged phone, Virgin Trains has also introduced charging points at the information desks at various stations. Passengers can now find both wireless and cable charging points in London Euston, Crewe, Preston and Manchester Picadilly so there’s no need to worry about arriving at the station with a digital ticket on a phone that’s about to die.
This announcement follows a series of technological developments from Virgin Trains in the last 12 months. These include the introduction of mobile handheld ticketing devices so customers can buy tickets directly from station staff, free WiFi on all train services and Track ‘n’ Travel online – a website that allows passengers to stay up to date with the status of their journey during any disruption or delays.
