Voom Pitch 2018 is upon us as the UK and Ireland’s most exciting pitching competition returns for another year, offering up your business the chance to pitch for a share of £1 million in prizes.
This year’s competition comes to a head on May 23rd, where a select group of finalists will get the opportunity to pitch their business idea to Richard Branson and a panel of esteemed entrepreneurs.
For businesses wishing to enter there are two main categories: Spark & Startup (for small businesses with between 0 and 19 employees) and Scale & Grow (larger businesses with 20 to 250 staff). However these categories don’t represent your only chance to win, as there’s a host of special awards up for grabs, the first of which we showcased last week - the Virgin Unite Impact Award.
This week we take a look at the Crowdfunder Award, which celebrates the business that has built the biggest crowd during the competition. The five businesses that crowdfund the most money during VOOM will be shortlisted and reviewed by the Voom judging panel, with the winner being rewarded with £60,000 of extra funding and support from Crowdfunder, Crowdcube and JCDecaux.
Last year’s Crowdfunder Award winner was Olly Bolton of What A Melon, who won more than £112,000 to invest into his business. To hear more from Olly you can check out his appearance on the Voom Podcast, which returns for its fourth series next week.
If you choose to raise funds using Crowdfunder whilst entered in Voom then you’re automatically entered into the Crowdfunder - therefore doubling your chances of success. Once the top five crowdfunders have been determined the panel will ask each entrepreneur a series of questions and assess the number of investors you’ve managed to attract.
