Formula E teams from around the world descended on Valencia last week, as the Spanish city played host to this year’s official Formula E pre-season testing session.
In the driver’s seats this season for DS Virgin Racing are Sam Bird and Alex Lynn, the first ever all-British pair to compete in the championship, with both showing promising for ahead of the season opener in Hong Kong on December 2nd.
The pair clocked up a whopping 440 laps of the 3.09km Ricardo Tormo Circuit over the three days of testing, enabling the team to gain some valuable data and the drivers to demonstrate their strengths against the rest of the field.
"Preparations have gone well. We’ve shown a good turn of speed but this track isn’t representative of the Formula E circuits we’re used to so we’ll have to wait and see how our form here translates come the opening race. The car feels good though as we’ve made some small but significant tweaks to optimise our already strong package," commented Bird.
The final day of testing saw Bird come in at 11th place, out of a field of 20 drivers from across 10 teams, with Lynn an impressive seventh. The previous day it was Bird who had come out on top as he ended the day in fifth position, while Lynn wasn’t far behind in seventh spot.
"Overall it’s been a positive test session for the team, which together with the data collected from our private test programme, puts us in good stead for the season. We’ve been able to work through our various scenarios and set-ups and I can’t wait to start my first full Formula E season," noted Lynn.
