Virgin Media Business VOOM will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest business pitch marathon.
The top 160 entrepreneurs from the public vote will pitch back-to-back over 29 hours to a panel of judges in the second round of the VOOM competition to decide who will make it to the finale to pitch to Richard Branson.
The Pitchathon will have three ‘marathon’ judges who will be present for the whole 29 hours – Jule Deane from the Cambridge Satchel Company, Andy Fishburn, head of investment at Virgin StartUp, and Peter Kelly, managing director at Virgin Media Business. Over the course of the 29 hours they will be joined by several guest judges including Jamal Edwards, Sharmadean Reid and Peter Williams of Jack Wills.
Also joining the judging panel will be LinkedIn’s 12 Professionals, who have been recruited as part of the VOOM competition to support the entrepreneurs and help choose the businesses that will get to pitch to Richard Branson for a chance of taking home a share of the £1million prize fund.
“I’m looking forward to hearing 160 innovative and inspiring ideas over the course of the 29-hour record attempt, although I am not underestimating the challenge,” Peter Kelly said. “Like any true entrepreneur, we never do things by halves at Virgin Media Business and achieving this record will add another level of ambition to the VOOM 2016 competition.”
All 160 entrepreneurs’ pitches will be live-streamed on the Virgin Media Business VOOM website, and we’ll be there keeping you up to date on the latest news too. You can follow what’s going on via our Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat or on Virgin.com where I’ll be staying up for the full 29 hours to run a liveblog. Please send coffee…
