Virgin Media Business today launches its search for the most innovative and exciting business in the UK and Ireland with the biggest and most valuable pitching competition, #VOOM 2016.
The competition gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to Richard Branson for the chance of winning a slice of a prize fund worth more than £1million.
“Virgin Media Business VOOM 2016 provides the golden ticket to propel your business onto a global stage and fast-track your way to success,” Richard Branson said. “Last year’s winners are testament to this.”
There’s two categories of the competition for businesses to enter: Start-up for fresh and exciting businesses that are in the early stages (either not yet started trading or just begun), and Grow for businesses with revenue that are looking to grow.
As well as the main prizes for these two categories of £50,000, mentoring from Virgin StartUp, a £250,000 marketing campaign, a Virgin Media Business broadband package and financial advice from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, this year there are three special awards that any business that enters can be in with a chance of winning – whether they make it to the final or not.
The Impact Award seeks to highlight a business that puts social and environmental impact, as well as profit, at the heart of their business. The winner will receive an all-expenses paid invitation to Virgin Unite’s Leadership Gathering on Necker Island in May 2017, plus mentoring, workshops and access to networking from the team at Virgin Unite.
The Great Award is for a business that flies the flag for Great Britain. In partnership with the UKTI team at Exporting is Great, VOOM is looking to find real ambassadors making big waves outside of the UK and Ireland. The winner will receive a one-to-one mentoring session at 10 Downing Street with one of the Prime Minister’s Business Ambassadors, as part of a package of export services from UKTI.
The Crowdfunder Award is for businesses that opt in to the brand new feature of this year’s competition – to run a crowdfunding campaign alongside your pitch. If you exceed your funding target you’ll be automatically entered to win an additional £50,000 from Crowdfunder.
The competition is open to entries now but the road to the finale is a tough one. Your business will face a public vote, a pitch at a 29-hour pitchathon, and workshops with the Virgin Media Business VOOM Professionals before you get to the Finale on June 28th, 2016, where you’ll get the opportunity to pitch your business idea to Richard Branson and a staller panel of judges.
