Virgin Australia sponsors the 2012 World Environment Day Awards

Each year, in support of the UNEP World Environment Day (June 5), the United Nations Association of Australia holds its World Environment Day Awards, which recognise innovative and outstanding environmental programs and initiatives from across Australia.

We are pleased to announce that for the third year running, Virgin Australia is supporting the awards!

Last year Virgin Australia sponsored the Business Award category, which was awarded to Next Energy for its Fridge Buyback Program and BHP Billiton & Thiess Services Pty Ltd for its Hunter River Remediation Project.

This year Virgin Australia will sponsor the Community Award, which recognises the invaluable role communities play in a wide range of conservation projects.

The Virgin Australia Community Award invites nominations for Australian individuals, organisations or businesses who are actively protecting species, habitats or the environment in their local area. The Award is open to land, waterways and coastal/marine environment based projects.

Nominations are now open nationally until Friday May 4th at:

Winners of the 2012 World Environment Day Awards will be announced at the Awards Presentation Dinner to be held on Friday June 8th at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne.
