Virgin Holidays are sponsoring this year's Observer Ethical Awards.
The awards, which were started in 2005, are known by many as the "green Oscars" and recognise and celebrate positive ethical actions.
Virgin Holidays are backing the Travel category, which is open to nominations from the public. It will seek to reward a winner that is pioneering in their sustainable approach and a tourism game changer. The judges will be on the lookout for collaborative enterprises rooted in their host communities, which have a clear positive impact. .
Andrew Shelton, Marketing Director Virgin Holidays, said: Our sponsorship of the travel category in this years Observer Ethical Awards represents an exciting development for our responsible business strategy. We work hard to innovate in this area, and to be the first to give readers of the paper the opportunity to celebrate ethical excellence in our industry is a real honour. Im really looking forward to reading about some of the projects and initiatives which are nominated I am sure it will be very inspiring.
Lucy Siegle, Observer ethical living columnist, BBC One Show presenter and chair of judging panel, added: I am delighted to have Virgin Holidays as a category sponsor for the 8th annual Observer Ethical Awards. There is a major social and environmental justice dividend to be gained from our lust for travel if the sector prioritises sustainability and development and thinks long term. Virgin Holidays has robust knowledge, real world experience and dynamic interest in how to get to this dividend. I'm anticipating a lively and educative judging process with expert judges from Virgin Holidays and I think we'll find some outstanding finalists.
Whether you are an entrepreneur focusing on sustainability within your business, a green campaigner or an individual with a new ethical idea, these are the awards for you.
Nominations for the 2013 Observer Ethical Awards are open now. Nominators are automatically entered into a prize draw to win a seven night stay for two in Kerala with CGH Earth Hotels, including flights, sponsored by Virgin Holidays.
