Yosemite Valleys holidays
The stunning Yosemite valleys, formed over eons of glacial erosion are difficult to capture in words, or indeed photos. The scenery really needs to be seen to be believed.
Yosemite covers a vast 1100 square miles with more breath-taking scenery than you could hope to experience in a single visit. There are a plethora of beautiful mountain vistas to see, including Glacier Point, a unique vantage point which overlooks a 3200-foot sheer cliff face. Be aware however, that Glacier Point is not open year-round due to seasonal weather variations.
Driving around Yosemite will certainly get you around the valleys quickest, but to truly experience the area, you need to get out and about either rambling or mountain biking. The dense undergrowth of the forest floor, coupled with the awesome power of the Yosemite Falls and the famous El Capitan rock face make Yosemite a natural sensation. There is plenty of wildlife to see including wild deer and coyotes and even the occasional bear.
Outside of the staggeringly beautiful natural sites, travellers and holidaymakers can check out the ghost towns from the mining days, and museums in the local area. The creepy Mono Lake with its greenish alkaline hue is worth seeing; just don’t take a drink from the water there!
What To Do
Monuments are left, right and centre in the capital of the USA, from the Lincoln Memorial and the US Capitol to the Washington Monument and the White House. There are 17 free museums from the Smithsonian Institution for those hungry for more history. Shopping is also a growing reason for Virgin trips to Washington DC, with Shops At Georgetown Park a particularly popular fashion destination. In the evening, look to Dupont Circle for the coolest clubs and bustling bars.
