Washington DC holidays
Washington DC, home of the President of the United States, is surely a must see for anyone planning a trip to America. Washington is absolutely brimming with history and culture, with the obvious attraction being the magnificent White House, which has been home to every single President throughout the annuls of time.
However, the culture stream by no means stops there. You can pay your respects to perhaps the most revered of all the presidents by stopping off at the Lincoln Memorial. Capitol Hill and the Washington Monument are also top tourist destinations to visit when in DC.
There are also a grand total of 17 museums to feed your inner culture vulture, ranging from science and nature, air and space, art, textiles and many more. It’s not just historical culture though, there are a lot of things to enjoy if you fancy a change from the learning. Washington has a great range of shops to spend your money in. From big high street names, to cosy little boutiques and classic American “Mom and Pop” stores, Washington is a veritable shopper’s paradise!
Washington is a stellar place for foodies to go; cafes and restaurants litter the streets so there will always be somewhere to find great food at a reasonable price. Come the evening, there are plenty of great bars and clubs to satisfy your partying needs. The trendiest areas are Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, home to many of these cool establishments. So kick back in a cocktail bar then hit one of the nightclubs and have a great time - Washington style!
What To Do
Monuments are left, right and centre in the capital of the USA, from the Lincoln Memorial and the US Capitol to the Washington Monument and the White House. There are 17 free museums from the Smithsonian Institution for those hungry for more history. Shopping is also a growing reason for Virgin trips to Washington DC, with Shops At Georgetown Park a particularly popular fashion destination. In the evening, look to Dupont Circle for the coolest clubs and bustling bars.
