Virgin Oceanic whale burial success

Virgin Oceanic has helped to successfully drop a 67’ Fin Whale carcass in the waters off the coast of La Jolla, San Diego.

As reported last week, Virgin Oceanic's catamaran was at the centre of the largest research programme of its type.

Scripps Institution of Oceanography, NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center and Sea World of San Diego have partnered with Virgin Oceanic to carry out the operation.

The whale will be monitored as it continues to decompose, providing a unique opportunity in the field of marine biology.
