The island of Cuba has many sights to marvel at and the capital city of Havana is home to many of these. From historic buildings, to great bars and stunning beaches Havana is a sanctuary of seductive culture. The majestic Parque Central complex is made up of the two biggest buildings in Cuba, and a small walk from there lies the beautiful Calle Obispo, an old-style street filled with little shops and cafes to wander through.
Nearby lies another pocket of culture, the Plaza da Armas, offering a wealth of amazing buildings including a beautiful temple. On the roads you'll often find yourself seeing old-fashioned American motor vehicles, another example of the varied influences that give Havana its allure.
If there's one thing Cubans love it's music, so while in Havana be sure to stop off at the many bars and venues, Salsa is huge in Cuba so why not sit down with some fine Cuban rum and then let your hair down on the dance floor. If you're worried about inexperience, fret not for there are plenty of places where you can get a few Salsa lessons to build up your confidence.
Famous fans of Cuba include writer Earnest Hemingway, who spent a lot of time in the island. In fact there are tours of places that Hemingway used to frequent, including Hemingway's Villa Finca Vigia, for you to embark on.
To visit Cuba and not visit the beaches would be doing yourself a massive disservice. One of the finest beaches around in Havana is Jibacoa, a delightfully sedate and tranquil area. Whilst there explore the seas and see the coral reefs, or take a relaxing tour on one of the boat rides offered.
What To Do
The capital city of Cuba is a popular choice with Virgin holidaymakers and it's easy to see why.
