In 1968 Richard Branson founded the helpline Student Help to put young people in touch with professionals who could give guidance on an array of issues.
The helpline was very successful. For many young people it was the first time they had easy access to a non-judgemental adult who could talk them through some of life's questions and difficulties.
In the mid 70's the helpline became available to people of any age group, and changed its name to the Help Advisory Centre.
By the early 80's we began offering a comprehensive counselling service, and now our name reflects this central aspect of our service.
Since the 1990's, Help has been a partner of Virgin Unite, one of about 40 social services and businesses that Virgin Unite works with to improve the human condition and environmental crises.
