Time for countries to unite over Syria crisis

Since the Olympic Games got underway in London they have shown their amazing capacity to unite nations, with the vast majority of those taking part behaving in an exemplarily manner in victory as well as defeat.
However whilst the Games have been going on, there’s been a most horrible conflict taking place in Syria. If only the nations which have been brought together by London 2012 could unite to ask President Bashar al-Assad to step down.
In the interest of his people there needs to be a change, further bloodshed can be avoided if democratic elections are allowed to take place. It is so very important that Syria joins the likes of Egpyt, Libya and Tunisia on the path to democracy.
It was positive to see the country’s Prime Minister, Riyad Hijab, stepping down at the start of the week. However every day that goes by children and families are being killed.
President Bashar al-Assad needs to realise that life is too precious and a put stop to the bloodshed.
