Enjoyed a great day with the family at Queens Club yesterday, and even got to play tennis on the hallowed turf of Centre Court!
My mum, wife and children loved watching Andy Murray, who won a thrilling final against Marin ili, before playing a fun match with Tim Henman against his coach Ivan Lendl and Tmas Berdych.
Then the serious fun began, as we played a doubles (later triples!) match to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Andy, Jimmy Carr, Jonathan Ross and Boris Johnson were the opposition, while Tim, Michael McIntyre and Eddie Redmayne joined yours truly.
The standard of tennis may have dropped but a lot of smiles were raised. When a line call went against me I offered the umpire some Upper Class Virgin Atlantic tickets! They seemed to do the trick Jimmy Carr was soon given a code violation for abuse of a knight!
We just about won in the end, but the important thing was all of the funds raised for the wonderful Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Congratulations to Ross Hutchins, who is fighting Hodgkins lymphoma cancer, for organising the day. He had his final chemotherapy session a few days ago, yet was able to join us for the final point of the match.
Congratulations to Andy for generously donating all of his Aegon Championships winnings to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. All the very best on your recovery Ross - and good luck for Wimbledon Andy!
