Oldest ever to kitesurf the Channel

Great to be standing on French soil and not to be greeted by French police!

Wonderful for the family to have set two world records in two days. I have even more respect now for Sam’s world record having taken so long myself to get across.

The trip was far more challenging than I thought with 40 mph winds in the middle of the Channel and major waves.

I have to admit there were moments when I was tempted to abandon it. The wind direction was the opposite of what had been forecast. I expected to scream across but was greeted with a long, downstream kite that took considerably longer.

Charlie from Necker, who is a friend and the kitesurfer who helped me get across, has told me he is going to kite back to the UK becoming the first person to kite to France and then back to Britain all in the same day. If only I was 30 years younger…

With all the help he has given me, he deserves his own world record. What a fun weekend…
