Lunch with Hillary Clinton

Had lunch with Hillary Clinton and her Chief of Staff to discuss a range of issues, from work that The Elders are doing in several countries, to space travel, to various environmental issues, to the work that the Global Commission on Drugs is doing and to issues in places like the Maldives, Sudan and Tunisia.
We also discussed how business leaders could be more helpful with governments and the social sectors around the world. One of the great gaps that we discussed was that many of the world's newer governments need to ramp up their economies quickly by working closely with the private sector.
Some of these newer governments have no independent, reliable source to go to for help. I mentioned that we are working with Virgin Unite to set up a global business leaders group that might help fill that gap, which she wholeheartedly welcomed.
The world is fortunate to have a woman of her stature in the position she is in. She has obviously made it publically clear that she plans to step down at the end of the year, which would be a great loss to the world. It would be wonderful if she steps back into the breach four years later, possibly taking on the top job!
