There are several excellent documentaries on the world of drugs coming up in the next few months, all looking at the war on drugs from contrasting angles.
First up is How To Make Money Selling Drugs, a fascinating feature produced by Adrian Grenier and Bert Marcus that has opened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The documentary is framed as an educational film and takes a satirical look at the drug world - often the best way to get a serious message across. It investigates drug dealing and drug enforcement and includes interviews with everyone from top-ranking government officials to rappers Eminem, 50 Cent and Rick Ross.
The likes of The Wire creator David Simon and actors Woody Harrelson and Susan Sarandon add another viewpoint to the debate, as do real-life dealers and users.
While offering a tongue-in-cheek, step-by-step guide on how to create a drug empire, director Matthew Cooke delivers a strong message that it is time to end the war on drugs.
Hopefully the film will help change more people’s minds and add to the growing support for a major overhaul of global drug policy.
