British business and the EU

Richard Branson

Thank you for all your feedback on the blog regarding the importance of Britain remaining in the EU. This is such an important issue and one that many of us clearly feel strongly about.

I was interested to see David Milibands response in the New Statesman, in which he outlined why the EU is an asset for Britain not a hindrance.

Today a group of business leaders, including yours truly, have written a letter in the Financial Times calling for a strong reformed EU with Britain at the heart of it.

London Stock Exchange Chairman Chris Gibson-Smith, Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP, CBI President Sir Roger Carr and Roland Rudd, chairman of the Business for New Europe campaign group, are among the other signatories.

As we state in the letter, we urgently need more EU reform, not least of the working time directive and the antiquated EU budget, and completion of the single market in services such as digital, telecoms and energy. Britain should be forthright in seeking the lead to achieve these changes.
