F1 success for Brawn GP & Virgin at Melbourne
- Mar 30, 2009
I've just caught my breath after an amazing weekend in Melbourne, full of excitement, drama and great success!
Holly and I only arrived on Saturday morning to launch our partnership with Ross Brawn and his team. Within hours our two drivers Jenson Button and Ruben Barrichello had stormed qualifying and were on the front of the Grid (first and second spots for the race). What a fairytale start.
Race Day was even better. We watched from the pit-lane, to get the full force of the noise and amazing energy of the race. We twisted and turned with every corner and cheered as Jenson raced to a stunning victory and Ruben battled his way to a great second.
This is the first time since 1954 that a debut team has taken the top two spots in qualifying and then first and second in the race.
The atmosphere was truly electric! Thousands and thousands of people chanting 'We love Virgin' as the team came down the track.
A truly amazing debut for Brawn GP and the Virgin Group in Formula One and 36 hours I won't forget in a hurry.
We are now working hard to strike a bigger deal with Brawn GP and will keep you updated on our progress. We believe it is possible that through business skill rather than financial resources, we can achieve significant benefits for the brand at very low cost. During these uncertain economic times I believe this partnership - with a winning team - demonstrates our ability to find inventive and powerful ways to help advertise, sell our products and keep the Virgin name out there.
The reception we received in Melbourne was incredible, being there I felt that we now have even more Virgin fans around the world who will be following and supporting us throughout the season.
The team head to Malaysia and the next race, full of confidence. For me the long journey home and filiming for Virgin Trains.
Keep watching,
Richard
