Congratulations to all Virgin London Marathon runners!

Well done to everyone who ran the very first Virgin London Marathon. It was a pretty amazing day and I’m pleased it wasn’t as hot as they’d predicted or my butterfly wings wouldn’t have coped! I managed to complete the 26.2 miles in 5 hours 2 minutes which I’m more than happy with – thanks to runner extraordinaire and world record holder Tegla LaRoupe who kindly mentored me through my training as well as running beside me on Sunday.

Thanks also to my team of runners, including Michelle Heaton, Jenni Falconer, Ricky Whittle and Natalie Imbruglia. And not least of course the 100 Virgin employees who all ran to represent the UK Virgin businesses and who have raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Success was also had by the Caterpillar Runners. I’m very proud of Sam & Holly and their 34 strong team, including Princess Beatrice and Dave Clark, who - achieving a time of 5 hours 13 minutes - managed to break the world record for the largest group of runners tied together to complete the race.

All together, with my ‘Team 2010’ of celebrity supporters and more than 100 Virgin people, we raised more than £1.5M (and counting) for good causes. This makes all the training and pain more than worthwhile.

So if you haven’t run the London marathon before – why not go for it in 2011? Virgin’s own London Marathon Virgin Bob Fear was a novice runner before agreeing to the challenge I set all of the Virgin employees… take a look at his marathon video which he shot as he ran the race.
