Being bold - the 2011 innovation award

Innovation doesn't necessarily mean developing the next big idea or revolutionary product. Being innovative can mean having a creative approach to the day to day aspects of your role and implementing new and fresh ideas that make Virgin stand out from the crowd.

We look for initiatives that breathe fresh air into the business, support the Virgin brand and shake up the competition by offering a market differentiator. We recognise and reward people who challenge convention, break down barriers and get things done better and smarter.

The 2011 innovation award was won by the Virgin Money Giving team who transformed and revolutionised online charitable giving. In 2009 they launched as a not for profit online donations service to help fundraisers and charities raise more money through their activities. The initiative was described by Gaurav Batra, Corporate Development and Strategy Director, as a ‘bold and grand idea integrated with making everyone better off’, the team have been hugely successful in driving income for over 3,000 UK charities, taking more than £60 million donations since its launch. As a result of its not for profit status over £2 million more has gone to charity.

Without Virgin Money Giving this would not have happened; the team have created a legacy which continues to grow.

Congratulations to the Virgin Money Giving team!
